Council of Irish Sign Language Interpreters
Our aims
To advance the profession, rights and interests of sign language interpreters.
To work in close partnership with the national Deaf-led organisation for the future benefit of both Deaf people who use Irish Sign Language and professional interpreters, Deaf and hearing, whose working languages include a Signed Language.
To support collaboration, cooperation and mutual, transparent communication between the Deaf community and Sign Language interpreters at international, national, regional and local levels.
Our work
Since its establishment, CISLI has campaigned on many issues and has established numerous sub-committees to deal with pressing policy issues, such as training, policy and strategy, occupational health and safety, and others. We have been involved in negotiations around the Recognition of Irish Sign Language for the Deaf Community Bill 2016, and maintain close links with the European Forum of Sign Language Interpreters (efsli).
